Unstable Console Audio Quality Mod that is Unstable

Using the tools XACT and towav I was able to convert audio from the 360 port to PC. I did not port *all* of the audio from console version as the console version still has some audio clips that are the exact same sample rate and re-sampling them would only make them sound worse.

However I don't recommend this yet because the console audio and consumes more memory, which the PC port handles poorly and if you do use it I recommend using the LAA gog exe, not the steam exe that only utilizes 2gb of ram instead of 4. In addition you should know that this doesn't fix the game's audio entirely, it still has this weird scratchy audio playback and the game's audio player still has issues with stereo.

This mod replaces audio.vpp_pc, music3.vpp_pc, and music4.vpp_pc. Highly recommended that you use N69's High Quality Radio Mod alongside this mod which replaces music1.vpp_pc and music2.vpp_pc.

A big thanks to Pulley999 aka Puulis!

Surprised this post doesn't have as much activity, the sound quality is like one of the top 3 issues of the port.

Juiced Patch already has audio playback fixes in experimental phase

Aye! I am in communications with Uzis! As a matter of fact combining this mod with Juiced delivers nearly identical audio quality to that of the console release... baring the cut scene stereo bugs.

Hey, cool mod! I was actually wondering if someone had done this as it seemed like a fairly easy way to increase audio quality without modding the game too much, clearly there’s more to it though.

I was curious if you could give a brief simple explanation on how you went about converting the Xbox 360 audio for use on pc. I don’t wanna waste your time, so you don’t have to give a long detailed explanation on how to do it just a short general guide on what you did would be appreciated.

The reason I ask is, as I said, I was thinking about it for a while but I had the PS3 versions audio in mind. I’ve noticed that the PS3 quality audio seems to be substantially higher quality than even the 360 audio quality, with it having basically zero compression in the audio (a good way to compare this is testing the different emotes for their voice lines in the character creator, the PC and 360 versions have crackling and popping whereas the PS3 has none of that). So if I’m right, and the PS3 audio is even higher quality than 360, wouldn’t it make sense to try and use it instead?

I know it’s probably not as easy as just using the PS3 audio instead, but if it is it could be a huge breakthrough. I’ve noticed that basically nobody has mentioned this either. I’m assuming it’s because most people assumed the PS3 version is inferior in every way, when in reality the audio quality difference is actually insane.

One last thing, I read up on the pcgamingwiki for Saints Row 2 that the native Linux port allegedly has substantially higher audio quality for some reason, but if you just copy the files over to the Windows version without changing them it just breaks the audio (except for the radio files I believe). Just another thing to consider as it could be even higher quality than PS3 for all I know, don’t have Linux so I never tested it.

Heres some info for you
