preload.tbl is quite unpredictable. Normally an item mesh not loading wouldn't cause the game to crash, but apparently it's different when using food items. Because of the chunk preloads, it's entirely possible that the Big Swallow may have worked at other Freckle Bitch locations.

No, I don't currently have any plans to finish it, because I'm busy working on other mod projects.
If you can show us how you do it I’d be happy to take over and give it a try.
Like I said, I'm busy.
But there's plenty of information scattered about these forums, if you look deep enough.
Maybe I'll write up an in-depth guide someday in the future.
