Saints Row Mouse And Keyboard Controls (For Xenia Emulator)

Hello, Saints and sinners!

Just a quick update from me. Around January of 2020, I had put together this document that lists my findings for some of the mouse and keyboard controls in Saints Row (2006), as ran through the Xenia Xbox 360 emulator.

I haven't touched this document since the first half of 2023. I had to do a bit of digging around to find it (was posted on Twitter/X during this time) since I had only made it public circa March of 2023.

Curiously enough, I only had it available in image format (trust me, even I'm scratching my head), but I still thought I'd attach it to this here thread in hopes that it could be of use to someone and tide them over until they get themselves a compatible controller for this trusty emulator.

Though incomplete (indefinitely), I've attached this document as-is to the lower half of this thread. I've also attached a better representation of the keyboard layout and how certain keys can be detected as inputs via the Xenia emulator (for Saints Row, that is) via an image from Flippy's video "How to Play Saints Row 1 on the PC", a video that I'd highly recommend watching if you haven't already.

To this day, I use my Xbox One controller to play this game via the Xenia emulator, so I don't have much use for these resources at the moment.

Also, here's a link to my original tweet/post/etc. with this document attached:
I do hope that this thread helps you all out who're looking to try out Saints Row via the Xenia emulator. Feel free to add to my document, archive it, post it elsewhere, etc. I'm not too fussed as long as it helps as many users as possible.

Have a good one and stay classy, folks!

Yours, Jacob_MP.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this but I was wondering if its possible to change controls for controller users? In saints row 2 on xbox i use control scheme b for driving. I use RT to accelerate, LB to shoot, X to brake and RB to look behind. This makes aiming and shooting in a vehicle so much better and is something I've wanted in sr1 forever. Forgot to add I use RowInput for sr2 and its perfect. I'd love to see something similar for sr1

Hi there. There should be different control schemes in the in-game settings for SR1. I use the same sort of control scheme that you've described there. I don't recall whether it's A, B, C, etc. for SR1 but I do vaguely remember it's not the default option when you first start playing the game. It's been several months since I've last played it. :D Hope this helps!

Hi sorry for the late reply I've been really busy. It does have other control scheme's but nothing like control scheme b in sr2 or saints row 3s controls. Control scheme B in sr1 is RT to accelerate LT to brake but the shoot button is A which makes aiming and shooting still clunky. To make it work i had to use scheme A and enable left stick acceleration so i can drive forward with left stick, aim with the right stick and shoot with lb. I was just wondering if a mod would be possible for xenia to make the driving and shooting more like scheme B in sr2. Saints row 1 is probably my favourite in the series but I have always wished for something like RowInput for sr1 so i can properly customise the controls and not have to use a clunky workaround to drive and shoot properly

Hmmm, I can't say I've ever edited the control schemes manually, but there should definitely a file in there somewhere that governs which buttons perform which actions in-game. I don't think it would be anything that's tied to the Xenia emulator, but I could be wrong. There might be some settings for controls that I might have missed somewhere.

While I don't have a definitive answer to this myself, there are two users on this site who might since they have a lot more experience than me here. CabooseSayzWTF and -SeaboundSaint- might have the answer to this one, perhaps you could DM them and link them this thread. Caboose has been modding the series for many years as far as I know and -SeaboundSaint- has been very active making a lot of SR2 modding posts and some SR1 stuff, too. It might help if your findings were included here in the replies too in the case that other users might want to edit the controls the same way you'd like to do. They should be able to find something for you.

I'm not sure if there's an equivalent of RowInput for SR1 but in any case I haven't seen something like that myself.

Let me know how you get on. Best of luck! :D :)
