GTA IV-like Car Handling / Saints Row 2 Driving Overhaul [v0.2].

It's been planned FIVE YEARS ago in my unfinished "GTA Pack" mod but now it's finally about to happen.

Lately I've been working on completely overhauling the vehicle handling in Saints Row 2 to feel more 'realistic' or reminiscent of GTA IV's 'slower' and heavy handling. And this isn't a simple adjustment to the turn speed either, me and some help with AI have been looking through mass, torque, RPMs, roll/pitch/yaw intensity, wheel friction, gear ratios, aerodynamics, etc.. So far the results have been like night and day. Although I'm not sure if I'm going to be doing every single car in the game, so far I've only applied to a few of my favorite cars as well as the police cars.

Here's an updated video on it as well as downloads to the mods to try out yourselves!

To use GOTR to install the mods, unzip/extract the contents in "Phoenix's SR2 Driving Overhaul.rar" and place all of the .xtbl's into the "1-MODDERS_-_PUT_YOUR_OWN_PERSONAL_MODS_HERE" file in GOTR's "optional_file_stuff", run the patch, then copy and paste the "patch.vpp_pc" into your Saints Row 2 game directory. (Apologies if anyone prefers an easier or alternate way to install mods, I am soo old-school like this xD)

So far the modded vehicles are:
-Raycaster
-Phoenix
-Bootlegger (work in progress)
-Hammerhead (work in progress)
-Superiore
-Vortex
-Zenith
-Attrazione
-Taxi
-Five-O
-Mockingbird
-Halberd
-Stiletto
-Cosmos
-Go!
-Danville
-Hollywood
-Ethel
-Compton
-Zircon
-Zimos
-Capshaw
-Westbury
-Alaskan
-Betsy
-Varsity
-Thorogood
-Legion
-NRG V8
-Voyage
-Komodo
-Keystone

Enjoy!!

Now this is freakin' awesome! I've tried and failed many times at modding Vehicle handling, and this is what I always wanted to achieve, but got nowhere close. It does feel very reminiscent of GTA IV. Bravo! I hope you do go on to do all the Vehicles. (131 isn't that many really...)

I've messaged you a little something that may be helpful for development of this project.

It feels really good; most vehicle mods don't really change much.

Only issue I had was oversteer on keyboard. Tapping A and D to make micro-adjustments to the car's path cause it to keep turning even after you release the key. It happens with all cars in this mod, but it's especially noticeable with the Bootlegger.
Maybe this problem doesn't happen on controller, but it made driving on keyboard difficult.

Love the new sliding though. Power slides in SR2 are very stiff, so this is a nice change.
Yes, I am very much aware of that 'turning delay' on the Bootlegger (and the Hammerhead), I am still trying to figure out how to fix that. Because those cars specifically have a different coding pattern from the other muscle/sports cars for some reason. As for the other cars, I personally have never had an issue getting cars to turn, but like you said that is likely because I mostly used controller to test with. Perhaps both issues could be fixed by adjusting the steering speeds but I'm not too sure if that would work. Appreciate the input

That's interesting! I thought the micro steering problem existed on controller too which would explain why they made it rotate near instantly.
While I've never modded this game's handling, future games of the series consistently have that problem so the steering speed had to be quite high if I modded it, around the 540-720 area.

If no workaround is found, I think even if the steering speeds were really high just for keyboard it can still be engaging (like how Mafia 1 has no steering smoothing when using left/right arrows since they are "secondary" bindings).
