COOP: CTD for me, friend gets teleported to earlier part

I played alone for some 8 hours. Everything was fine. I joined my friend's coop game. He began it with me. When we get to the whitehouse turret, I CTD and he gets teleported back to the "cure cancer or hunger" part of the game.

We both have over the top gaming PCs so that's not the problem.

This is an example of something that Volition can't possibly troubleshoot since you're using mods. If you are serious about reporting bugs then you need to both be completely vanilla and see if the problem persists.
