You do know about the scripts folder right?
I reckon using a set of console commands

Like dealing with fog, fog_strength
or saturation
Combined with level_ambient
Could add some taste to your shader mods

Also tod_coloring true|false have a high impact
nice i'll definitely mess around with those next time. i did try out the console a while back but i was mostly looking for a way to change/disable the game's antialiasing which is what messes with the depth buffer access. i dunno if that's something you can manipulate easily through scripts (my technical knowhow is pretty limited overall)
