Saints Row 5 Ideas thread

I'd like a return of each game's main themes. Also, a way to explore Old Stilwater beyond the area we see in SR2, possibly before the earthquake via the Zin time machine.

Or better yet, waking up sometime after the events of SR2 and realizing that they just got really high the night before off of something new that Shaundi had them try.

Adding to this thread, I had some ideas a few years ago about a Saints Row 5, which I guess now would be more of a rebooted Saints Row since it would definitely go back on the whole superpowers and Earth getting blown up. My idea was to bring the game back to Stilwater, but expanding on it yet again. It makes sense, because it'll have been a long time since the events of SR2 and cities can change. If the city managed to change as much as it did in the several years between SR1 and SR2, then it could change again in a decade or more.

  • Include the original map as we saw it in SR2, but expand it to west of the University district. Include a bit of countryside like a forest or some fields, and then another small city or a couple of small towns.
  • An amusement park or theme park somewhere in this new landmass based on all of the gangs we've seen in the series. They could call it "Gangland."
  • Shivington and Sunnyvale Gardens would be completely made over like how Ultor planned to in SR2. Skyscrapers and high end businesses replacing the old projects
  • The Red Light District should now be called something else (maybe LeSalle, its beta name according to road signs in SR1) and made into a hipster area, parodying gentrification even further.
  • The areas to the far south end of the city, such as the Barrio district and docks, would be the new poverty-stricken and run-down areas.
  • Bring back being able to ride the train, and include a new underground subway system.

Of course, if they decided to go to a brand new city, I think a city based somewhere on the southern coast would be pretty cool. Stilwater was supposed to be an amaglamation of various Midwest cities, Steelport was the rust belt, maybe this southern city could be some sort of cross between Miami, Tampa, New Orleans, Houston, etc.

Also, bring back talk radio if it's anything like The Mike & David Show from SR1. Better yet, just bring back Mike & David. SR1's parody of the right wing talk radio format has aged surprisingly well 13 years later, and a satirical take on today's politics and current events would be welcome listening and would add to the variety of radio stations beyond just music.

I haven't played SR2/SR1, but I've seen many comments around it. I wouldn't want to expand to the point where everything fills generic, empty/open world or too much work for developers if players aren't going to explore much of it. That being said

"..expand it to west of the University district."
- The first one I don't really understand, what detail or unique factor would it have
- IS IT == Fraternities/Sororities, Beer Pong, Animal House Reference & Genki College Football so it would be like SR's Bully
- OR == Jeepers Creepers's Farmland (Countryside) + Jason's Campsite/Lakefront + whatever horror places where Co-eds are usually are killed off 1 by 1 (Plot Twist, the Co-eds are the serial killers)

"An amusement park or theme park...Gangland"
- This sounds like what SR4's Gauntlet w/powers (Basement) or SR3's Genki Gameshow (Panda/etc), but like a Anti-Neural Area or Non-Seize-able Warzone
- If its like a Warzone with Prizes (Unlock an Upgrade Version of a Weaponized Vehicle, e.g. Tank w/1/2/4 Cannons, HoverBike w/CyroSprayer & Blaze exhaust), Summons (Robo Panda/Tiger/Dr.Genki Mech Suit or STAG Carpet Strike) or Stuffed Animal Costumes/Allies
- I had similar idea, except it was for SR4 Clothing Shops that were to generic and The shops in Menu Mod (Download Clothing vs Visit Shop), each shop was a claustrophobic battle area ("...use the Stores for BattleAreas/Retail Ecosystems/Event Spots...)
https://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum...-customization-concept-clothing-mostly.15400/
- Oh I've played a PC game called Gangland
- If we were to combine ideas: It would be a Warzone w/Shops as Different Gang Times/Culture (Asian/Italian/Jungle/City/Cult) or Weapon Limitations and claimed shops w/Guerilla Tactics (Steal Weapon Shipments, Destroy Products)/Ambushes/Tales of Saints Row (Like Hyrule Warrior)

"Shivington and Sunnyvale Gardens would be...Skyscrapers and high end businesses replacing the old"
- That sounds like a mission if we were in the middle progress: Take PRISM's Payout and evict old neighbors or Defend the Ghetto, unlock Gangsters/Weapons/Summons and build a Community Center (It could be a parody of Politics)
- Yeah, most AOM's map is big buildings, but they don't use their Vertical Space for nothing, but platform jumping...add some turrets or tethered jets would be nice for dogfights
- if PRISM (Ultor + STAG + Police/Army) makes these buildings then it could be a Parody of Avengers vs Justice League (Vengers vs JustOps)

"...LeSalle...hipster area, parodying gentrification even further."
- I laughed at this idea, but I don't know if this idea would get Saints Row devs into a lot of trouble
- It would be the most WOKE AREA of people who've gone BROKE, so they TOKE and are STOKE when they see you FOLKS...LeSalle Miseralle
- Oh man since I've read some of your comments and compared to the generic-ness of Lil'Cultures...THIS SHOULD BE A DISTRICT THAT IS ALWAYS IN A MUSICAL (Nulls would always be doing dances when your still for like 10secs or do a taunt/compliment)
- It would be based on SJW-Culture

"... new poverty-stricken and run-down areas."
- When I reviewed AOM, I said they were Pre-Cyberpunk == they were Night City before it went to hell
- This area could a growing infestation combined with your Shivington/Sunnyvale Gardens ideas
- The area could be before and after it changes or based on Cyberpunk Lore (Asaka Corps building gets blowned up > Turns Night City into Distopia) that the Ghetto gets Steamrolled and Buildings are put up then it falls to Corp Wars > Buildings get demolished > New Neighbourhood that turns to a Ghetto > Repeat...every so often
- Some ruin building and construction (AOM has this like Vice City did) would very diverse vs just having already built places

"Bring back being able to ride the train, and include a new underground subway system."
- We're in the future...this idea needs an AOM's spin...okay: Hover coasting Bullet Trains that goes from Hi2Mid-level of Towers to in the ground Under Subway with secret passage ways to Legion Bedrooms/Homes where we can go undercover as Legion Servants, but can't kill Legion Bosses, though you can battle Legion Semi-Bosses

"...Southern city could be some sort of cross between Miami, Tampa, New Orleans, Houston, etc."
- I get that your idea might pre-date AOM, but Gangstar covered New Orleans, GTA5 feels like San Andreas Stories, Watchdogs 2 is every beach city map
- I've written games into the future like AOM cause I'm tired of the same World Design (buildings are for scenery like trees in a medieval games) with unexplore-able-but-would-get-boring interiors or its set in a forest/cave/dungeon/field...not even a meadow w/tall wheat growing

"...Mike & David. SR1's parody of the right wing talk radio format..."
- This would be playing with fire, but if say that LeSalle District was like District 9 (Alien Movie) with them commenting on things like "Spongebob figured he'd wait for someone to come from the bathroom to see which gender it belonged too, but cause he couldn't Identify with either...he peed himself"
- Maybe have an Alt-Left vs Alt-Right, Extremist vs Extremist and hints to where they're going to do protest and battles

I like your feedback its very detailed

Welp... I've made my thread also... BUT I got carried so away choosing weapons and I picked a list that's worthy for a shooter. BUT STILL... I've mentioned some cool stuff there (atleast for me). The thing is. SR needs a reboot that mix both it's original roots with a touch of the SR3 silliness atleast.

+ empire building like GTA VCS and SCARFACE THE WORLD IS YOURS.

https://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/threads/saints-row-deserves-a-reboot-urgently.18563/

My idea: Start competing with GTA again.
If volition makes a sr to compete with gta nowadays... GTA will be kicked like no tomorrow.

Most what I read is basically "Make it like Saints Row 2, but with updated controls and graphics and more of what made that game awesome." More haircuts, body options, different cars, weapons, (layered) clothing options, crib customisations, stores, character animations, fighting styles and more cutscenes, and then some.

I would love te see SR5 compete with GTA again. Make the story a bit more grounded, make the world more gritty and a little less sleazy (dont have strippers just walk outside just to have more different types of pedestrians and such.) SR2 was in my opinion the only game that kicked GTA (4) 's ass. Everything was more fun.

What I would love to see in parody of GTA (v) is the addition of sports, but more extreme. Play tennis with a timed bomb-ball. Play golf with a grenade. Play darts on each other. And for the love of god, bring back Fight Club as it was in SR2.

More activities, with each their own starting cutscene and story. It was so much fun to start a new activity. More racing, maybe Burnout City style. Be an escort again if you want and add more like being a stripper as activities.

And more styles of censorbars. Would be funny to have a black bar as censorbar. Or none at all. Cyberpunk style. And please bring back Laura Bailey. :D

Why should anyone want to have LESS than SR2; not the players fault that it raised the bar so high already that soon in the franchise :p

SR3/4 balanced their shortcomings a bit by having some comfort stuff that would had been neat on SR2 + IMO the best version of the Boss; the one where you can direct a bit and don't have to be a dick you hate yourself (...maybe) to play; even be a bit of an anti hero.

Currently playing SR3 remastered a bit since it got its gog release. IMO there is a lack of interiors in the open game world; I had that feeling the first time I played SR3 (normal) but also to a somewhat lesser extend in SR2. Sometimes its just fun strolling through the city & discovering new stuff. The more everything is just a facade the faster it gets dull. I don't mind the more silly & sleazy surroundings but would not mind a more grounded look like in SR2 either. SR2 is a bit John Woo & Tarantino vs SR3 Rodriques & also Tarantino

Cannot tell how any of these compare to GTA though. The premade character in each title disqualifies it kind of instantly for me.

Here is a really good idea I saw for the story of Saints Row 5.

I think it wraps up everything very well and would make both old and new fans happy. :)

Considering the fact that they have been working on the game recently, I'm curious as to what the main focus will be now..

Deep Silver announced to there wont be any Saints row in E3 or before :(
That just means they're not ready to officially announce it.

I think the problem Saints Row is faced with is that nobody can quite agree which game was the best, what the game should focus on, and how serious it should take itself; but at the same time every one thinks they know what the series needs, alienating parts of the fan base and causing the series to suffer as a whole.

I think this is the wrong way of approaching the issue and causes people to fail to see the bigger picture.

What Saints Row fans can agree on is that they enjoy the customization options, the freedom to explore, the feeling of progression, and the plethora of unique weapons, vehicles, and colorful characters found throughout the series.

The first game needed to be more unique and hadn't quite discovered itself yet, Saints Row 2 was close but still needed more customization options and freedom, Saints Row 3 loses a sense of progression in favor of customization, and Saints Row 4 loses much of its freedom and puts the characters in the back seat.

I think that successfully balancing each of these features is the key to success. Allowing players to make their experience one-of-a-kind, not just once but each time they play. I think a good way to do this would be providing players with a passive progression system as opposed to an active one based on how they play and rewarding players for socializing with the NPCs they meet. Perhaps things like calling characters to accompany you could build loyalty? Maybe choosing to pose for pictures and complimenting pedestrians could make you more favorable to the general public while driving on sidewalks and instigating fights could make you a menace to society?

That said, people still want to control what their characters look like. I think offering as many options as possible during character creation is great, but being able to mix and match as players see fit with less limitations does wonders for those who want to dive deeper. Sliders with drastically different extremes for each part of the body, the ability to stack clothes, tattoos, and hair styles, and tweaks to small things like pupil shape and dirt patterns lead to a degree of customization that is hardly seen in this genre.

Regarding progression, players need to see that their actions are affecting the world. As their empire grows, so too should their influence. Stamping out opposing forces should also be more prevalent and maybe you can see buildings start to change and characters act differently as events unfold. Make certain the player will want explore and be in the world as much as you want them to. That said, characterization must march on. Not just for the player but for NPCs too. Seeing others grow alongside you creates bonds and makes people care.

I think these ideas are well suited to your Intellectual Property and with correct application could help out in promoting Saints Row as a seriously heavy hitter in the industry. Thank you for your time.

I waiver any rights to the ideas I present in this documentation.
