GameSpy is going down and taking Saints Row 2 Multiplayer with it

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-04-04-gamespy-servers-to-shut-down-next-month

This is a major bummer. I'm not sure how SR2's matchmaking works (I assume it's all P2P once the match starts) but hopefully there will be a custom server made for some of these games. I'm already working on a project for Nintendo Wi-Fi games, another victim in this shutdown, so I can't spare much time for SR2 but I'll try to take a look later in the week and see if perhaps there are similarities.

Actully I don't think saints row 2 uses match making it uses a some sort of server browser type thing but it seems everything works fine on the coop and stuff at least that is good can't say for the rest of the games that use gamespy at least its good to know we won't be losing sr2s coop and multiplier that was a close one.:)

Just use Evolve: www.evolvehq.com

Or scroll down to view alternatives for Hamachi: http://alternativeto.net/software/hamachi/

I've found Evolve to be the easiest. Heard great things about Tunngle & GameRanger too.

Hamachi is okay just okay. There is way better programs though. I wouldn't recommend it. Seriously just pass on it and if you are using it then it's time to try something else. :)

Use Evolve for playing with friends and maybe Tunngle and GameRanger to find others playing games. Then again maybe most the GameSpy players will move to Evolve.

Get more people to use Evolve's online LAN feature as it's the simplest and best looking of the online LAN programs. ;) Plus it works really well.

For console games check out: XLink Kai: http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/
or XBSlink: http://www.seuffert.biz/xbslink/

Maybe we could get a custom patch down the line for SR2 but I wouldn't hold my breath since these solutions are available and work well enough.

Evolve isn't bad, but Hamachi is just crap. We used to use it for Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption for our LARP sessions ect. There were rooms and passwords, and a bit of configuring and tons of disconnections. We settled on Tunngle. It's been really stable, you get a large chat room lobby and their support has been good. Their founder Alexander Wycisk even reached out to me in thanks after posting on our FB page that we use Tunngle for our games and they even featured us on theirs, along with my video tutorial. If you decide to go Tunngle, they'll help you get the word out and draw in more players.

Since I already have a group that I co-op games with. Evolve has been excellent. I personally can't think of a reason to use Tunngle unless I want to find more people to play with for a specific game as not a ton of people have flocked to Evolve yet....

I might give Tunngle and GameRanger a whirl one of these days. Heard great things though.

You know I heard Saints Row 2 Multiplayer didn't work well with GameSpy. I wonder if it works better over LAN?

Speaking of games working better over LAN. I found System Shock 2 CO-OP works better on Evolve than over it's net connection. (Still save often though. At bulkheads and before loading points. After upgrading your character stuff in multiple save slots.)

Crow550 add me on steam I want to join your party on saints row 2 I don't have many friends on steam willing to play coop or mutiplayer on sr2 matter a fact I didn't know it had mutiplayer.

I just recently beat it co-op and am busy with other co-op games at the moment but can fit in time to see if Multiplayer works....
