Fixes for crash at startup not working

I recently bought Saints Row 2 in the steam sale and was ecstatic to play it, then after realising it didn't work and was constantly crashing at the gamespy logo I decided to google as to why and to my surprise found plenty of people having the same problems.

I then read through this:

and did everything I could do. Nothing worked.

I then read through this as well:

and once again did everything I could. Nothing worked
So I was wondering if anyone else had any tips as to how I could get it to work. If it helps I have windows 8.
 
Can you post the information about your computer rig?

Also, maybe you can make ideas of what could be causing it? It's not like "Perhaps this is a hardware problem? Since my motherboard is..." is useless.
