A Question

What is the forum policy on posting or linking articles from other forums and sites?

I'm thinking specifically of places like the Wayback Machine or the defunct Xentax forum.

I have run across a few conversations regarding SR2 modding that contain
helpful information (such as one in which IdolNinja participated on xwb file compression) that are not only interesting reading but might be of help to people modding the game.

I have mentioned them in tutorials where appropriate but I fear that the links could be lost at some point. What I would like to do is either post a link listing in the guides forum to some of these pages or perhaps include the posts themselves in a zip file available for download.

Thank you.

Not that I'm any kind of authority, but I haven't seen any rules regarding posting links on these forums. My stance is; The more links, the better. Links are typically better than directions. Just don't knowingly link to somewhere dodgy. Whomever clicks the link can use their own judgement on whether they want to risk it or not.

It's usually best to include links where appropriate to show what you're referencing, instead of creating a separate thread just for that.

If you fear information from elsewhere being lost, hold on to some kind of copy of that information for yourself, then reupload it here (or wherever) in the future, when said information can no longer be found on the internet. Be sure to clearly state that you've reuploaded the information for archival purposes, and it is not your work. Ideally, you would also have permission from the original author to do this, but that might not always be possible. In which case, what's more important; Preservation of information, or the author's consent?

I would imagine IdolNinja would be all for preserving anything Saints Row related.

I agree with you about preserving information. I actually only wanted to link to information that is not readily accessible. As far as I know the Xentax Forum is defunct.

What I hope will happen is that the information thread can be added to by anyone who finds something, that has been relegated to obscurity, modding related or tool related .

I think it could be a handy reference for new modders to have. I know when I was starting to learn I spent more time chasing links to dead webpages than I did actually modding.

Thank you for the reply.

Good idea! That would be useful! I prefer links if they still work because then people who click it can go off and wander the linked site on their own and find other nuggets of information. But of course if the link no longer works, then it's good to have that information archived in some way.
