Well thats a thing for every game, in a 3d software you ll have a generic material slot (maya, blender and 3dmax use the format "phong") in that case you ll need a converter to import to any game. Like we have one for SR4.

Ninja riper method is way more problematic. SDK has a fully working model with bones and face expressions, jf you extract it, you wont have any of those.
Extracting any SR1 asset and port them to another SR pc game its forbidden and thats the rule. Period, no discussion there.
Making them from scratch is another thing, but again, its pointless since we dont have tools to make them compatible with SR2.
ThomasJepp.Buildpackfile will create the .str2_pc and update the asm on the same step, you dont need anything else.
