Big Layoffs Hit Agents of Mayhem Developer Volition

The Know can't even research.

(In the case of EA, Bullfrog was absorbed to EA UK, Westwood basically killed themselves, and only one Maxis' studio was closed.)

This is a really big shame, I really hope they have some sort of reason for downsizing
AoM just didn't sell very well. The game currently has 33k sales on Steam.

It did horribly in the UK.

It was outsold by Fallout 4 (2015) and GTA 5 (2013) in August.

Online discussion about the game is pretty much non-existent, it has 789 subscribers on Reddit for example.

To top it all off the PC game has a Metascore of 70/100 among critics and a user score of 5.5.

Did you know AoM is not sold only on Steam, and that the actual numbers are not known?
Did you know that Steam sales can still be used as an indicator of overall success even if the console sale numbers aren't known?
Did you know that the UK sales being low likely means the sales were low in other countries as well?
Did you know that the US August 2017 sales, according to the NPD, are worse than the sales of For Honor, a game that came out in February of this year?

I'm confused. Are we still talking about Volition?

I went on Metacritic to look up the scores on their games:

Descent: FreeSpace - The Great War (1998) - User score 8.0
FreeSpace 2 (1999) - User score 8.8, Metascore 91
Summoner (2000) - User score 7.8, Metascore 78
Red Faction (2001) - User score 8.2, Metascore 78
Summoner 2 (2002) - User score 8.4, Metascore 76
Red Faction 2 (2002) - User score 5.7, Metascore 64
The Punisher (2005) - User score 8.5, Metascore 67
Saints Row (2006) - User score 7.5, Metascore 81
Saints Row 2 (2009) - User score 6.8, Metascore 72
Red Faction: Guerrilla (2009) - User score 7.6, Metascore 82
Red Faction: Armageddon (2011) - User score 6.7, Metascore 75
Saints Row: The Third (2011) - User score 8.2, Metascore 84
Saints Row IV (2013) - User score 7.4, Metascore 86
Saints Row: Gat out of Hell (2015) - User score 6.1, Metascore 66
Agents of Mayhem (2017) - User score 5.5, Metascore 70

I wouldn't exactly call their legacy bad. Their last 2 games have been disappointments, that's all.

SR4 higher than SR2? Wow
I think those numbers reflect the poor port of SR2 to the PC, and not the overall approval of the game itself.

The implementation has been much more consistent on the Xbox 360 platform, and I think those ratings much more accurately reflect the approval of the game itself rather than the implementation.

Here are the Metacritic scores on the Xbox 360 platform:
Code:
SR1: Metascore: 81 User Score: 7.5
SR2: Metascore: 81 User Score: 8.1
SR3: Metascore: 84 User Score: 7.6
SR4: Metascore: 81 User Score: 6.6
SRGOOH: Metascore: -- User Score: 6.6
AOM: Metascore: 75 User Score: 5.9 (Xbox One)

If you look at the user scores, which are the best gauge of user satisfaction (and sales?), clearly SR2 was the best, followed by SR3, and then SR1.

Honestly, THESE are the numbers Volition should be looking at (IMHO).

SR2 wasn't the best but let's not talk about that here ;)
