Saints Row 2 Roots Mod

Hey guys,

Like said above, the mod is pretty much done. Right now I am sorting out the files that need to be included and which ones not and I am working on stopping the game from crashing. Do not worry, this won't take long, I believe it has to do with the changed I made to the AI. The mod release will not have any game crashes, don't worry :)

Because the release is taking some time, I decided to post some screens to show you some changes I made to the police vehicles.

Keep in mind, this would not have been possible without the support from Volition. So thank you V, for the vehicle crunch tools.

Here is the police peacemaker.
It is pretty much the same as it used to be, but I removed the dirt from the car, 'cause I like the cops clean and I also got rid of the rambar in front of the cop car, looks nicer like this imo.

I also gave the police an undercover Peacemaker. It is different then the original black one though.
This one does not come with tinted windows and also not with bars at the side windows, so it looks as civilian as possible.
It will spawn in Dark Red, Blue, Gray, Black and White. Any other colors you guys think that fits the cops, just let me know.

Here you can take a look at the SWAT Peacemaker. I used to use the black peacemaker but a lot of people said it didn't fit the SWAT. Though I agreed,
I did find the SWAT also needed something to chase the player with at high speeds. When the crunch tools came out, I let my fantasy go.

This is the result. A peacemaker, completely tinted in the SWAT blue color, just like the other SWAT vehicles. The windows are tinted completely black.
This version does come with a rambar. It makes the SWAT peacemaker look tougher then the standard cop car, thats also a reason why the standard one doesn't have one.

Below here you can see the changed SWAT Lockdown.
It is completely cleaned, so no dirt on it. I also changed the parts it spawned with. So no more roof rack or oversized antenna. It looks more like a Lenco
Bearcat now in my opinion

And last but not least the SWAT Bear. Not really anything to say about this one except that I just wanted it to appear clean, without dirt on it ;)

The police Kenshin remains unchanged, it is good the way it is now.


I also have disabled the siren on the SNG variant of the Bear APC and probably will also add the SNG livery to the Bulldog without turret.


I also tried changing the helicopter variants, but the game crashed each time it tried to spawn one so those remain unchanged. I originally planned on making the SWAT vehicles appear all black but having black ground vehicles and blue helicopter kinda sucked so I left it the way it was.

P.S. the reason why these pics were taken in windowed mode is because I wanted to take them with SweetFX turned on :p Fraps somehow disabled it in fullscreen.
The texture pack used in the screens is from Hevon.

In the release of my mod, I will include the links to the two above mentioned mods. Probably will call it 'To furthere enhance the gaming experience, use these two graphic boosting mods' or something like that.

As always, ideas are welcome.

Yorpie i tried to PM you but i can´t do it, i really FUCKING LOVED YOUR MOD !!, i was trying to create a mod like yours (not a copy but a kinda of mod that will replace default cops and change their car colors) and i seen you´re the only guy who can help me doing my mod please i don´t wanna take your time but please try to help me with some info please, and i can´t wait to download that gorgeous mod you are making! oh and also if ideas are welcome here´s mine: as you plan on bringing back SNG, put them more as a SWAT reinforcement (less drestuctive more tactical) with shield wielding SNG specialists, maybe gun changes like use the gang smg, sniper rifle, and maybe what if they arrive in turret mounted hummers and unmarked N-FORCERs with SNG colors and no turret??

SNG Shields are already included. They arrive on SNG N-Forcers, so your idea kinda was already implemented and the mounted hummers offcoarse already are included. :D

And yes, offcoarse, SNG basically are a SWAT reinforcement, they show up when even the best of the Steelport Police Department can't take down the player. For this reason, I will not remove the destructive nature of the SNG, they will keep using the tanks, attack helicopters and rocket launchers (Helicopters even fire at a faster rate now then they used to). This is because, if the player gets the SNG after him, it means that he must be very destructive himself, so a little colleteral damage is nothing compared to what the player is capable of ;)

For more varied weapons, I use the SWAT. They use the ka1 kobra pistol, blossom smg, ultimax shotgun (now fully auto), ar 55 assault rifle, mc manus 2015 sniper rifle, riot shield and the grenade launcher. So for this reason, SNG will only be using the ar 55 assault rifle as main battle weapon as well as rocket launchers.

Thank you for your ideas, you may give more if you'd like, I love reading these. Sorry for the late response, was kinda busy last few weeks.
About the mod itself, I'm busy working out the crashing problems that currently occur.

I'm pretty sure the mod crashes are caused by one of the notoriety spawn tables or from the edited traffic spawns. I think this will be fixed this evening so I can do a final run to check if everything is okay and then I'm going to release it.

I'm sorry for the long wait time, can't believe its been so long since I announced this :O Well, there are quite some things that have gotten changed in those months so yeah. I have changed all traffic spawns and amounts in all neighbourhoods, I'm just hoping its not this which makes the game crash.

Like IdolNinja mentioned a couple of posts back
'Modders do this stuff in our spare time and have actual real lives outside of modding just like everyone else.'

Okay, so finally no more crashes, the gang and police spawns are working and the custom traffic is also doing its job fine. :D

With that said, saints row decided to create some new problems for me to fix:
After playing for a while most police spawns stop coming while being wanted.
Shops didn't have any shop keepers in them anymore.
The game crashed when I tried to play a trafficiking mini game.

I am currently testing the mod for the last time, making sure there aren't any crashes. There will be updates in the future, but I am going to release the current build of it asap. Keep in mind that I haven't made the mod story compatible yet, a savegame with only storyline missions completed is good enough :)
